At Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, we like to say we’re a country church in the heart of the city.
Rooted in deep tradition and open-hearted hospitality, we offer a welcoming space for everyone — whether you’re new to faith, returning after time away, or simply seeking a caring community.
At Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church, we like to say we’re a country church in the heart of the city.
Rooted in deep tradition and open-hearted hospitality, we offer a welcoming space for everyone — whether you’re new to faith, returning after time away, or simply seeking a caring community.
For over 60 years, we have served the Mount Royal and West End neighborhoods of Saskatoon with heartfelt worship, joyful gatherings, and a strong commitment to outreach and service.
Our story began in the late 1950s, when services were first held at Howard Coad School. By October 14, 1962, Mount Royal United Church began worshipping weekly at Mount Royal Collegiate. After much dreaming and planning, a new church building on Vancouver Avenue was dedicated to the Glory of God on October 1, 1965.
In 1994, another chapter of our story unfolded. Emmanuel United Church, after many years of faithful ministry at 33rd Street and Latrace Avenue, joined with Mount Royal United on Easter Sunday. Together, we formed what is now Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church — a strong, caring, and close-knit congregation committed to carrying Christ’s love into the community.
We owe a special thanks to Harold Bradley, our longtime Office Administrator and dedicated historian, for preserving and sharing our church’s rich story. His care and commitment have helped us celebrate our past even as we look toward the future.
Today, we continue to blend meaningful worship, vibrant music, children’s programs, pastoral care, and community outreach. We are proud to be part of the United Church of Canada, an inclusive and affirming denomination known for its progressive theology, social justice work, and deep spirituality.
Wherever you are on your faith journey, you’ll find a home here — a place to grow, to serve, and to experience God’s love in a community that feels just like family.
About the United Church of Canada
The United Church of Canada was born in 1925, when Methodist, Congregationalist, and a majority of Presbyterian churches came together to form a new, united Christian denomination. From the beginning, our church has reflected a deep commitment to Christian faith, a spirit of openness, and a bold vision for unity.
Today, the United Church is one of Canada’s largest Protestant denominations, with over 2,500 congregations across the country and Bermuda — including 343 congregations in Saskatchewan and 10 right here in Saskatoon.
The United Church is often recognized for its progressive theology, inclusive values, and strong emphasis on social justice. We are a community where people of all backgrounds, races, abilities, gender identities, and sexual orientations are welcomed, affirmed, and invited into leadership.
At our 2023 Regional Council gathering, we adopted the mission statement that beautifully captures who we are:
Deep Spirituality. Bold Discipleship. Daring Justice.
In June 2024, the Living Skies Regional Council officially became an Affirming Region. This means that all people — regardless of who they love, how they identify, or where they come from — are not only welcomed but fully celebrated within the life and leadership of the church.
Theologically, the United Church holds many beliefs in common with other mainline Christian traditions. We proclaim God as Creator, Christ as Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit as Sustainer. We are called to live out our faith through action — by caring for creation, pursuing reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, and working toward a just and peaceful world.
In a typical United Church service, you can expect a lot of singing, honest and challenging sermons, creative approaches to worship, a strong sense of community, and plenty of joyful laughter.
Above all, we strive to be a place where faith is lived authentically, and where God’s love is made visible through how we care for one another.
